Midships to Miss Breeders Cup Odds

November 30th, 2010 Breeders Cup Betting

Breeders Cup odds for the Breeders Cup Turf at Santa Anita on Saturday, November 7th will not include star turf runner Midships.

The horse has headed back to the farm but will begin training again in December. His loss really shakes things up for the Turf race in Breeders Cup betting.

Breeders Cup odds likely would have had Midships as one of the favorites in the Turf at the sportsbook. Instead of running in the race, Midships will spend time at Juddmonte Farms in Kentucky. "He’s had a bump in the road," farm manager Garrett O’Rourke said. "We decided to bring him back to the farm. At the moment, the plan is to put him back into training in December."

Midships had trouble in the Man o’ War Stakes in July, finishing 9th. He had previously won the Grade 2 San Luis Rey, Grade 2 San Juan Capistrano, and Grade 1 Charles Whittingham handicaps. "We’ll point for the same races" in 2010, O’Rourke said. Midships has won 5 of 16 starts and would have been a contender in Breeders Cup odds for the BC Turf.

Juddmonte farms won’t be left out of Breeders Cup odds though. They have European horse Midday and Visit. Other European horses they are looking at for Breeders Cup odds include Zacinto for the Mile, Father Time for the Marathon and Famous Name for the Dirt Mile. Visit may be in the Filly and Mare Turf in Breeders Cup odds although that decision has not yet been made.

The Filly & Mare Turf in Breeders Cup odds is one of five races on Friday, November 6th that opens up Breeders Cup betting. The other four races in Breeders Cup odds for Friday at the sportsbook are the Juvenile Fillies, the Ladies Classic, the Filly & Mare Sprint and the Juvenile Fillies.

Saturday is a huge day of Breeders Cup odds. Breeders Cup betting is highlighted by the $5 million dollar Classic. A full field is expected in that race including Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird. Also on the Saturday card in Breeders Cup odds is the $3 million dollar Turf. The Juvenile, the Mile and the Sprint are exciting $2 million dollar races in Breeders Cup odds. The three races that are $1 million in Breeders Cup sports betting are the Juvenile Turf, the Turf Sprint and the Dirt Mile. The half million dollar race in Breeders Cup betting is the Marathon.
