The Field for the Marathon in Breeders Cup Wagering

November 30th, 2010 Breeders Cup Betting

The first race in Breeders Cup wagering is the Marathon on Friday, November 5th. It is called the Marathon for a reason as it is a mile and three quarters.

Let’s look at the field of possible starters in Breeders Cup odds for this grueling race.

Since it is such a long race there are horses that are going to be pre-entered in this race and in other races.  Price Will I Am could be in the Marathon but he might also go in the BC Turf. A.U. Miner was third in the Hawthorne Gold Cup and he could be going in the Marathon as could the second place finisher in the Hawthorne Gold Cup, Giant Oak.  Eldaafer won the Turfway Park Fall Championship and he was third in the Brooklyn Handicap so he might be a factor.

Bright Horizon – Trainer Aidan O’Brien could have a big Breeders Cup and he is looking at entering Bright Horizon in the Marathon. The horse won a two-mile handicap race at the Curragh in his last start.

Alcomo – This horse won the Brooklyn and was second in the Greenwood Cup. He would be coming off a long layoff but he has been working longer distances in preparation for the Marathon.

Temple City – One of the main contenders in Breeders Cup odds at SBG for this race figured to be Temple City but he bombed out in the Hawthorne Gold Cup last time out.  He has come out of that race in good shape though and is working well and might be entered in the Marathon.

Where’s the Remote – He finished second in the Clement Hirsch and trainer Mike Mitchell has said he is pointing the horse to the Marathon.

Atoned – He was third in the Turfway Fall Championship.  He is trained by Neil Howard and comes out of the Dogwood Stable.
