Trainer Aidan O’Brien could send four horses to the Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs and all four could be contenders in Breeders Cup betting. The best known of his four horses is Rip Van Winkle who could go in the Mile or in the Classic. The mile would seem to be the easier spot in Breeders Cup odds for Rip Van Winkle since the Classic will have Zenyatta and Lookin at Lucky.
O’Brien’s Four – In addition to Rip Van Winkle, O’Brien has Fame and Glory who is headed for the Turf, Bright Horizon, winner of the Irish Cesarewitch, and Fillies’ Mile runner-up Together. Fame and Glory will probably go in the mile and a half turf race while Bright Horizon might go in the Marathon. Together could be set to go in the Fillies’ Turf. The quartet would give O’Brien a real chance to contend in this year’s Breeders Cup at Churchill Downs on Friday, November 5th and Saturday, November 6th.
Another Decision – Another trainer that will have to make a decision for the Breeders Cup is Christopher Clement. He has Shadwell Turf Mile winner Gio Ponti. The horse could go in the Mile or in the Classic. Clement has not decided which race best suits Gio Ponti. The horse is coming off a win in the Shadwell Turf Mile under jockey Ramon Dominguez. He won by a length of long shot over Society’s Chairman at Keeneland. It was the fourth win in five career starts for Gio Ponti at a mile distance so it is very possible he will be entered in the Mile at the Breeders Cup and be one of the leading contenders in Breeders Cup odds at SBG.
