Another Summer Bird Upset Bet on Breeders Cup

November 30th, 2010 Breeders Cup Betting

Bet on Breeders Cup attention will be focused on the Breeders Cup Classic on Saturday, November 7th with one of the main contenders being the 3-year old Summer Bird.

The horse was a surprise winner in the Belmont this year and might be worthy of a Breeders Cup bet.

Bet on Breeders Cup odds are not going to favor Summer Bird. That honor is going to go to the unbeaten filly Zenyatta. European standout Rip Van Winkle is also going to get a lot of attention from those that bet on Breeders Cup races. Where does that leave Summer Bird in the big bet on Breeders Cup race?

Summer Bird has won three of his past four starts. The horse was the surprise bet on Breeders Cup winner in the Belmont but had also won the Travers and the Jockey Club Gold Cup. The horse was beaten though, and beaten badly by the filly Rachel Alexandra in the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park in August. Now Summer Bird is likely to face another unbeaten filly in Zenyatta in bet on Breeders Cup and Zenyatta is unbeaten in her 13 career starts. "I have a lot of respect for Zenyatta and what she’s accomplished, but at the same time I feel my horse is improving," Ice said. "He’s a much better horse right now than he was going into the Belmont, going into the Haskell.”

Summer Bird is definitely not without a chance in this bet on Breeders Cup race. The horse has a career-high Beyer of 111 and that is second best behind only Quality Road’s 113 as Breeders Cup bet stats show. Zenyatta’s best figure is a 108. "I look forward to the challenge, and anytime that you’re looking for any honors, I think you have to beat the best horses … I look forward to racing against her, and however the outcome may be, my horse is going to give everything he’s got." Ice said.

In other bet on Breeders Cup news, jockey Joel Rosario has the flu and missed his mounts this past week. He is still expected to be available when the chance to bet on Breeders Cup races begins on Friday. Rosario is going to be busy as he has six mounts. He is set to be on Sir Dave in the Marathon in bet on Breeders Cup action, Evita Argentina in the Filly & Mare Sprint for Breeders Cup bet action, Bickersons in the Juvenile Fillies, Dancing in Silks in the Sprint, Chocolate Candy in the Dirt Mile and Noble Court in the Turf Sprint for Breeders Cup bet races.
