Canelo Alvarez vs. William Scull SBG Odds Overview
Scull was Canelo’s mandatory challenger at the time and went on to outpoint Vladimir Shiskin for the vacant IBF title in October. Meanwhile, Mexico’s Alvarez, 34, holds the WBC, WBA, and WBO titles at 168 pounds. Alvarez is expected to get an easy win over William Scull. Hence, the fight is considered to be a tune-up for a Sept. 13 showdown with Terence Crawford. In turn, that superfight will be contested for the undisputed championship.
Alvarez’s new four-fight offshore betting deal with Riyadh Season was a stunning development that reshaped the boxing landscape. Especially just hours after it was reported that he was in the process of finalizing a deal to fight YouTube star Jake Paul on May 3 in Las Vegas.
Canelo Alvarez is coming off a dominant decision victory over Edgar Berlanga in September. Now, he turns his attention to Scull, an undefeated but relatively unknown challenger from Cuba. Correlate Scull has quietly climbed the 168-pound ranks.
Scull, 31, holds a 23-0 record with nine knockouts, though he has yet to face elite competition at the world level. Fighting out of Germany, Scull is a slick, awkward fighter. However, he is a massive underdog against the all-time great Canelo. Scull is rated No. 8 by ESPN at 168 pounds.
Now, with the deal in place, Alvarez is set to fight at least three more times under the Riyadh Season banner. He’s slated to fight Crawford on Sept. 13 in Las Vegas. Additionally, he has plans for two Boxing odds fights next year in Riyadh in February and October.
Indeed, the last time Canelo had a chance like this, he was 11 years younger and had to face Mayweather. At that time, Mayweather was holding an undefeated record and was much more experienced than 23-year-old Canelo. The Mexican managed to lose to Mayweather by points after the champ outboxed him.
Now more experienced and having learned some lessons along the way, Canelo does not regret facing Mayweather back then. Although he thinks it was a bit too soon for that fight to have taken place, getting an opportunity like that just means that he was that good, and that is a positive to take. Canelo rebounded from that loss, going on to win world titles in three more weight classes. Concurrently, he is a super-middleweight champion.
With Crawford stepping up to Canelo’s weight to challenge for undisputed honors, it promises to be a huge event. In fact, it could be bigger than his fight against Mayweather. There is no doubt this fight will bring in huge revenue and interest to both parties involved.
SBG Best Bet: Canelo Alvarez.
