Unpredictable Belmont Odds at SBG Global

November 30th, 2010 Belmont Stakes Betting

Belmont odds have been very unpredictable in recent years with favorites failing and longshots springing surprises.

Belmont odds in 2009 at the sports book should be exciting again although there will not be a Triple Crown on the line. Let’s look at what has happened recently to make the Belmont unpredictable.

Belmont odds have seen the favorites win about four in ten races in history but recently those numbers are not as strong. The Belmont dates back more than 100 years so it might be more advantageous to look at more recent Belmont Stakes odds when looking to handicap this year’s race. 9 of the last 11 favorites in Belmont odds have lost. Some have lost dramatically as big favorites in Belmont Stakes odds including last year’s bust, Big Brown. When the heavy favorite finishes last in Belmont odds it definitely is a disappointment when a Triple Crown is on the line and that is what happened in 2008. Also disappointing was the 2004 Belmont when Smarty Jones lost to Birdstone in Belmont odds. The Triple Crown drought stretches more than 30 years and it won’t end in 2009 as Mine That Bird won the Kentucky Derby while Rachel Alexandra won the Preakness. Affirmed was the last horse to win the Triple Crown in 1978.

While Belmont odds have been unpredictable recently they have been profitable for longshot players at the sports book. The favorites doing poorly have resulted in some nice exotic payouts in Belmont odds. Most people look at the exacta, quinella, trifecta and superfecta when they think of exotic Belmont odds but you don’t want to forget about the multi-race exotics like the pick three’s, pick four and pick six. The Belmont is usually the feature race and can be a big part of pick three, pick four and even pick six tickets on Saturday.

Although there will not be a Triple Crown in 2009 you can still make money wagering on Belmont odds. Mine That Bird will be on the Belmont Stakes odds board at the online sportsbook in addition to a number of other horses that ran in the Kentucky Derby. There will also be a few newcomers in Belmont odds as well and those horses could be worth a look. Overall, Belmont odds should be very exciting once again this year so check out the board at the online sportsbook today. Open an Account and start betting on the 2009 Belmont Stakes at SBG Global!
