2010 Belmont odds and post positions were announced on Wednesday for Saturday’s Belmont Stakes. Ice Box is the 3-1 morning line favorite in Belmont betting with First Dude the second choice at 7-2 and Fly Down the third choice at 9-2.
A field of 12 will be running on Saturday in what is expected to be a wide open race. Ice Box is a lukewarm favorite at 3-1 for the third race in horse racing’s Triple Crown while First Dude is 7-2 and Fly Down 9-2. Ice Box will start from post position number five and be ridden by Jose Lezcano. First Dude starts from post position number eleven and will be ridden by Ramon Dominguez. Fly Down starts from post position number five and will be ridden by John Velazquez.
The Belmont field will not include Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver or Preakness winner Lookin at Lucky. The two runner-ups in those two races, Ice Box and First Dude are the two favorites on Saturday in the Belmont Stakes. The only three horses with single-digit odds in the race are Ice Box, First Dude and Fly Down. Two of those horses, Ice Box and Fly Down are trained by Nick Zito. All of the other horses are considered longshots. Those horses are Dave in Dixie, Drosselmeyer, Game on Dude, Interactif, Make Music for Me, Spangled Star, Stately Victor, Stay Put and Uptowncharlybrown.
Ice Box did not run in the Preakness after his second place finish in the Kentucky Derby so he should be rested. Ice Box beat First Dude back in March in the Florida Derby but trainer Dale Romans believes his horse has improved enough to get a different result in the Belmont. He also believes the added distance will suit First Dude.
Post time on Saturday is approximately 6:32 pm Eastern and the race will be televised by ABC.
