2009 Belmont Odds at SBG Global

November 30th, 2010 Belmont Stakes Betting

Belmont odds in 2009 at the sports book should be exciting with Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird trying to win the third race in the Triple Crown series.

Unlike the Preakness, Belmont Stakes odds have seen a number of upsets in recent years and that could be the case again on Saturday, June 6th in the Belmont Stakes.

Belmont odds at the online sportsbook last year saw Da’ Tara spring a huge upset as heavily favored Big Brown was pulled up, finishing last.  That is not the only upset recently in Belmont odds either, as longshots have been the way to go in this race.  Historically, Belmont odds have seen favorites do pretty well, winning more than 40% of the time but not this decade as upsets have been happening. From Sarava to Birdstone to Da’ Tara last year, upsets have been happening in the Belmont Stakes a lot recently.

Belmont odds have seen quite a few horses try for the Triple Crown and fail in recent years but that won’t be the case in 2009 Belmont odds at the sports book since Mine That Bird won the Derby while Rachel Alexandra won the Preakness.

2009 Belmont odds are going to have Mine That Bird as one of the leading contenders but that does not mean he is a sure thing to win.  Other contenders in Belmont Stakes odds could be more intriguing and offer more value.  Peter Pan Stakes winner Charitable Man is definitely a horse to look at since he comes into the race fresh and his sire, Lemon Drop Kid won the race back in 1999.

Another horse to consider in 2009 Belmont Stakes odds at the online sportsbook is Chocolate Candy.  The horse did not fire in the Kentucky Derby but may have not liked the muddy track.  He comes back now and gets leading jockey Garrett Gomez.  He also has a pedigree that points to him liking the distance. Chocolate Candy should have excellent value in Belmont odds, probably at double-digits.

Nick Zito has had some success in previous Belmont Stakes odds and he has a couple of horses in Miner’s Escape and Brave Victory.  Both of these horses will be longshots but history has shown that longshots can be the way to go in the Belmont. That might point gamblers against Mine That Bird or Rachel Alexandra if she runs.
