Belmont Stakes betting for the 2008 race will have Big Brown a heavy favorite against the rest of the field. It is expected that Belmont odds will have Big Brown at odds of approximately 1-5. Belmont betting odds will probably not see any other horse other than Casino Drive at odds of less than 10-1.
Belmont betting in 2008 will be very exciting because a Triple Crown is at stake. The last time a horse came into the Belmont trying to win a Triple Crown was in 2004 when Smarty Jones lost in Belmont Stakes betting. Many people believe that 2008 Belmont Stakes odds will finally produce the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978. Belmont betting will have Big Brown a popular choice in Belmont Stakes odds followed by Casino Drive, Denis of Cork, Tale of Ekati, Behindatthebar and a few other horses with long odds.
Just because Big Brown is a heavy favorite in Belmont betting does not mean he is an automatic winner. Many times in history a horse has gone into the Belmont as a big favorite and ended up disappointing Belmont betting gamblers. Smarty Jones was the latest disappointment in Belmont betting but not the only one. Funny Cide failed in 2003 and War Emblem failed in 2002. That is three horses this decade that have been favored in Belmont odds but failed to win the Triple Crown. Three more horses failed in the 1900’s with a chance at Triple Crown glory. Charismatic failed in 1999, Real Quiet in 1998 and Silver Charm in 1997. Three more failed in the 1980’s. Sunday Silence lost in Belmont betting in 1989, Alysheba in 1987 and Pleasant Colony in 1981. One year after Affirmed won in 1978 it was Spectacular Bid that failed in 1979 as one of the biggest Belmont Stakes betting favorites in history.
2008 Belmont betting will be very exciting as Big Brown looks to end a 30 year Triple Crown drought. If history is to be made, Big Brown won’t pay very much as his Belmont Stakes betting odds will be among the lowest in recent memory.
