Will Power and Joseph Newgarden Top 2019 Indy 500 Odds

Power and Newgarden Top 2019 Indy 500 Odds

Last year Will Power scratched off the ultimate bucket list item.  Power drove his Team Penske Dallara Chevrolet to victory.  Of his 33 career wins none was more important or sweeter.  Power had his share of back luck with the Indy 500 odds.  But finally prevailed.  As a result, Power is again favored to win at the Brickyard on Sunday.  Yet he has not had a particularly strong year thus far.  In fact, Joseph Newgarden leads the Indy Car Series standings.  Power’s Team Penske teammate is in search of his first ever Indy 500 win.

2019 Indianapolis 500 Overview

Indy Car racing has lost the vast majority of its fans in the past 20 years.  In like manner to horse racing it holds on to one crown jewel event.  Similarly, to the Kentucky Derby does the Indy 500 maintain top level prestige.  It is the one race that casual fans consider appointment television.  Additionally, the unpredictability of the race adds to the draw.  No other race draws as much action than the Indy 500 odds.  The last eight years have seen eight different drivers win.  Iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway was opened in 1909.

Joseph Newgarden

Now the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has not been kind to Joseph Newgarden.  He has cracked the top five just once out of seven tries.  However, he brings the advantage of Team Penske equipment and experience.  Additionally, he was the 2017 Indy Car Series champion.  And in his defense the Indy 500 can break the best of drivers.  The great Mario Andretti was named “Driver of the Century” in 2000.  He won everything there was to win at every level.  Yet he hoisted only one bottle of milk for his career.  The Indy 500 became known for the “Andretti Curse.”

Scott Dixon

Certainly, no driver offers more consistent quality than five-time Indy Car series champion Scott Dixon.  The 38-year-old Aussie has 43 career wins.  Most important of all was his only Indy 500 win in 2008.  Likewise, he can relate to the great Mario Andretti.  Despite all of his offshore betting career success he has drank milk on the podium but one time.  Dixon trails only Joseph Newgarden in the standings.

Marco Andretti

Although he is only 14th in the standings Marco Andretti is always a sentimental favorite.  That is because he is Mario Andretti’s grandson.  At age 32 he has had a solid but hardly dominant career.  His best finish at the Indy 500 was second in his rookie season of 2006.  Marco finished ninth in the standings in 2018.  More emphatically he is a name brand that draws money based on family tradition.

Matchup to Watch

It is true that nobody has dominated the Indy 500 odds in recent years.  As a matter of fact, the 2019 race looks to be wide open.  In this situation its best to try and combine good recent performance with long term results.  Scott Dixon is that perfect combination.
