The Chase to the Cup has begun with Clint Bowyer winning the first of 10 races. With the victory Bowyer moved up in the standings to 4th place. Johnson started the 10-race Chase with a 20-point lead due to his six wins on the season. Of the eight tracks that the teams have run on already this season Johnson has two wins and an average finish of 9.5.
