Winning the Folds of Honor QuickTrip 500

The Folds of Honor QuickTrip 500 has been run under various names since 1960.  Last year Kevin Harvick got the win in what turned out to be a dominant regular season for him.  Brad Keselowski got the win in 2017.  And seven-time champ Jimmie Johnson was the betting on NASCAR winner in Atlanta for 2015 and 2016.  Johnson tied Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, and Bobby Labonte on the all-time winner board with four career checkered flags in this event.

Atlanta Motor Speedway

Atlanta Motor Speedway opened in July 1960 and is among the speediest tracks on the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup circuit.  Specifically, the track is 1.54 miles in length with turn banks of 24 degrees.  As a result, Atlanta offers some of the most exciting races on the schedule each year.  Then add in the new rules and aero package and Sunday will bring the element of the unknown.

A Day to Remember

Last week featured one of the most exciting Daytona 500 finishes in the history of online betting. Furthermore, Denny Hamlin’s win made for a special day for Joe Gibbs Racing.  It follows the death of team co-founder JD Gibbs, son of Joe, and the man that discovered Hamlin.  Gibbs won three Super Bowls with the Washington Redskins as head coach and made the NFL Hall of Fame.  Yet he called last Sunday the greatest win of his life.

Jimmie Johnson

For that reason, Johnson is one of the top all-time drivers in Atlanta.  To illuminate he has five career wins at this track with 14 top five and 16 top ten finishes.  Johnson has an average finish there of 11.6.  Certainly, that is far and away the best numbers for Atlanta amongst active drivers with any reasonable experience.

Kyle and Kurt

Namely the Busch brothers, Kyle and Kurt, are also outstanding competitors in Atlanta.  Kyle has and average finish of 14.8 with Kurt right behind at 15.3.  Most important of all Kyle has two wins and seven top tens While Kurt has three wins and 13 top ten finishes.

Matchup to Watch

Kyle Busch finished second last week at Daytona and was ordered by Gibbs to fall into line behind teammate Hamlin.  Busch was not happy after the race.  More emphatically he will be a strong betting on NASCAR pick for Atlanta with plenty of fuel for motivation.
