2012 Indy 500 Betting Recap

Indy 500: 2012 Indy 500 Betting Recap of an amazing race and more… . You could not have asked for a more perfect setting this Memorial Day weekend for the ninety sixth running of the Indianapolis 500. Under blue skies and a temperature reaching 91 degrees on Sunday, May 26th in the Speedway City, this was just the start of one of the most memorable races in recent history.

The temperature may have alluded the record book by one degree, but the competition on the track was not to be denied, as there were 35 lead changes, setting a track record, which had stood since 1960 (29), before Dario Franchetti coasted over the finish line first, under a yellow flag. But the story was already told before the caution was caused by the ferocious last lap battle between Franchetti and Takumo Sato.  Start your Indy 500 Betting action at SBG Global.

It was literally wheel to wheel heading for the checkered flag win their tires met and Sato went spinning into the wall causing the yellow to be displayed. It was a one, two finish for Chip Ganassi Racing as Scott Dixon was second. Tony Kanaan placed third. There was also a yellow with just 13 laps remaining when racing family legends, Marco Andretti lost it on the inside white stripe and hit the retaining wall across the track. Kanaan appeared to be in the running after that, but couldn’t keep up with Dixon and Franchetti near the end. When Franchetti made his final push to the front, Sato took advantage of the draft and sailed past Dixon directly behind Franchetti before his crash. That left Dixon and Franchetti first and second which seemed fair enough as they had dueled through much of the last 150 to 200 miles.

What was also fitting, was the tribute afforded the late Dan Wheldon, last years victor, who was subsequently killed during a race last October. The top three finishers were perhaps three of his closest friends during their years of racing. His widow, Susie, joined Franchetti and his wife, actress Ashley Judd, in a convertible for the traditional, ceremonial victory lap celebration. Wheldon would have been proud.
