Naturally, the First Saturday in May means “My Old Kentucky Home” and the “Run for the Roses.” With less than eight weeks to go prep races are running full throttle to get the final field qualified and set for Kentucky Derby betting.
As always, the Kentucky Derby field will feature the best of the best. To illuminate if a horse never wins another race, it’s okay as long as he wins the blanket of roses on May 2. Several top contenders have emerged for Derby Day. Let’s take a look at the last top horses!

Ete Indien
Has emerged as the official number one rank on the leader-board. So far this Patrick Biancone trained horse has earned $285,156. This colt is coming off a win in the Grade II Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park on February 29. Additionally, Ete Indien finished second in the Grade III Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park on February 1.
Modernist
Second, on the official Kentucky Derby rankings is Modernist. William I. Mott is the trainer for this colt that has won $240,000 in his career. Modernist is coming off an offshore bookmaker win at the Grade II Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds on February 15. Extending the Modernist appeal is Mott, who won his first Derby last year. Mott is a three-time Eclipse Award winner as the best trainer.
Enforceable
Next in the third position is Enforceable. This Mark E. Casse trained colt has won $264,550 in total winnings. Accordingly, Enforceable has been very active since last May. February 15 saw Enforceable finish second in the Grade II Risen Star Stakes. Prior to that was a win in the Grade III LeComte Stakes at Fair Grounds on January 18.
Storm the Court
Fashion that Storm the Court has won a whopping $1.14 million for his career. Trainer Peter Eurton led Storm the Court to Kentucky Derby Betting prominence with a win in the Grade I Breeders Cup Juvenile on November 1. By contrast Storm, the Court finished third at the American Pharoah Stakes on September 27.
Tiz the Law
Tiz the Law has drawn recent attention with earnings of $456,000 in his career. It follows that a win in the Grade III Holy Bull Stakes on February 1 at Gulfstream Park caught handicapping eyes. November 30 brought a third-place run at the Grade II Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes. Tiz the Law won the Grade I Champagne Stakes October 5. Consistent with that success has been trainer Barclay Tagg.
Silver Prospector
By reason of his win at the Southwest Stakes has Silver Prospector become one of the favorites. It doesn’t hurt that Steven M. Asmussen is the trainer. Asmussen has twice won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Trainer. And he has two wins in the Breeders Cup Classic. Yet despite wins in the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes he has never won a Kentucky Derby. Silver Prospector may offer his best chance yet.
Summing up this colt won the Grade III Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park on February 17. Silver Prospector also was the winner of the Grade II Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes on November 30. As well as those wins is a total of over $654,000 in earnings.
