A Mover and a Baker: Oklahoma-OSU NCAA Online Betting

September 4, 2017 By Mariela Miranda

The Oklahoma Sooners and the Ohio State Buckeyes will meet in week 2 of NCAA online betting as the former’s starting quarterback continues his farewell tour. Baker Mayfield started his senior year as a man with a mission, and that mission is to win a national championship and, if possible, a Heisman trophy along the way. Mayfield completed 19 passes – including 16 in a row – to 10 different receivers for 329 yards in OU’s 56-7 rout of the UTEP Miners on Saturday, overtaking Jason White for the third most career passing yards in school history.

Riley stoops to Bob’s level

New Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley picked up right where Bob Stoops left off as the Sooners extended their winning streak to 11 consecutive games. OU had 676 total yards of offense and all four running backs were in action. Eight of Oklahoma’s 11 drives resulted in TDs – and each was scored by a different player. Junior kicker Austin Seibert converted all of his extra point kicks. The defense got off to a slow start but didn’t allow the Miners to score after their first drive. Cornerback Jordan Parker appeared to sustain a serious leg injury and his potential absence could mean more playing time for true freshmen cornerbacks Tre Brown and Tre Norwood. Both team captains Steven Parker and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo were in good form.

The Sooners have won and covered in their last five games, and are 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games. The NCAA online betting total has gone under in five of OU’s last seven games and over in 80% of their last five on the road.

Blame It on the Bosa Nova

Ohio State’s defensive end Nick Bosa (LA Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa’s younger brother) looks like the Buckeyes’ best shot at stopping Mayfield. Bosa had one tackle and one sack – out of a collective five – in OSU’s 49-21 win over Indiana on Thursday, but played more snaps than any Ohio State defensive linemen and is by far the best defensive player on the roster. On offense, freshman running back JK Dobbins rushed for 181 yards on 29 carries, thus breaking Maurice Clarett’s 2002 debut rushing performance of 175 yards and leading head coach ‘Pope’ Urban Meyer to compare him to Ezekiel Elliott. Wait, was JK also accused of domestic abuse? Oh, he meant football-wise.

Meanwhile, JT Barrett finished 20-of-35 for 304 yards and three TDs and rushed 61 yards rushing for another TD. The OSU quarterback is not two scores shy of tying Drew Brees’ Big Ten career record of 106 total touchdowns.

The Buckeyes have won 22 of their last 25 overall games as well as their last five at home, but have failed to cover in 70% of their last 10 games. The NCAA online betting total has gone over in two thirds of OSU’s last six games.
