Getting Ready to Bet Preakness Stakes Odds

December 1, 2010 By Smith

Preakness Stakes

Bet Preakness Stakes odds are just like the ones you see in other horse races. They just get more attention since they are the second race in horse racing’s Triple Crown.  There are a number of choices in Preakness Stakes betting and it is those we want to look at.

Preakness Stakes odds begin with win, place, and show.  In addition to those choices you can bet the exacta, quinella, trifecta and superfecta. You may even want to include the Preakness in pick threes, the pick four or even the pick six. Win, place and show are easy to understand. It is simply betting a horse to finish first, second or third.  The exacta is picking the exact order of finish of the first two horses. A quinella is either or your two horses finishing first or second. A trifecta is betting the exact order of the first three horses.

When you bet wagers like the exacta and trifecta in Preakness Stakes odds you probably want to box horses.  For example, let’s say you like four horses in the race. You box those four horses together in your exacta box.  If any of those horses finish first or second you would win.  You can do the same thing with the trifecta. The superfecta is a more costly wager to box horses so most people will just pick horses for each position for the wager.

You also have the pick three, pick four and pick six that includes the Preakness. You have to win three races in a row to hit the pick three, four in a row for the pick 4 and all six for the pick 6.  The Preakness is included in these wagers since it is the only reason Pimlico still has a race track. If you are trying to hit a pick three, pick four or pick six then you need to choose multiple horses.  You won’t see many people in history hitting a pick six taking just one horse in each race. Boxing horses can be a good way to go in these Preakness Stakes betting wagers. For example, if you box three horses in each race of a pick three it would cost you $27 for a one dollar pick three (3x3x3). Boxing three horses in each leg of a pick four would cost you $81 for one dollar (3x3x3x3). The pick three, pick four and even the pick six can be a great way to bet on the Preakness.
