Paris Saint-Germain (PSG)
Specifically, the goal for PSF is to back up being crowned European champions by earning the title of world champions. PSG’s incredible second half of the season culminated in their 5-0 demolition of Inter in the Champions League final. As an offshore betting result, that will heighten the spotlight ahead of the Club World Cup. If the tournament unfolds as most expect, then a team from UEFA will win, and currently, PSG is UEFA’s strongest team.
Accordingly, there was a message immediately after the Champions League final in Munich from club chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi. The Chairman vowed that PSG was heading to the U.S. to win. Thus, if they manage to find the energy to play in the same way they did in the Champions League knock-out rounds, there’s no reason to think they won’t.
Manchester City
In like manner to PSG, Manchester City are here to win it, although it may be tough. Pep Guardiola’s team is coming off a difficult season and had to limp over the line to ensure it finished above the Champions League cutoff. Guardiola will also use the tournament to settle in four new signings. Namely, Playmaker Rayan Cherki, midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, left back Rayan Aït-Nouri, and goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli have arrived in FIFA’s specially created Club World Cup transfer window. Thus, it will take time for them to understand the unique demands of playing for Pep.
Of course, there are plenty of reasons City won’t win it. But the demands remain the same. Whether it’s the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, or Club World Cup, Guardiola and City expect to win or get very close.
Real Madrid
Naturally, Real Madrid expects to win it. That’s their aim in every Soccer lines competition. But there’s so much at stake here. Few teams have had greater international competition success. First, Madrid wants to make up for an underwhelming season that ended without a major trophy for the first time since 2021. They missed out on LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League. In turn, they were well beaten by most of the top opposition they encountered. Consider those four consecutive Clásico defeats to Barcelona.
Second, it’s a chance for high-profile new signings, such as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, to demonstrate that they can improve the team. And a chance to help overcome last season’s glaring defensive shortcomings. Finally, this is Xabi Alonso’s hasty introduction as coach. Following just two weeks in charge and 10 days of training. Alonso called it “an opportunity to get started with processes,” and with no time for a proper preseason before the 2025-26 campaign, it will have to be.
Bayern Munich
In a similar way to all of the big UEFA teams, Bayern Munich is here to win. Bayern won back the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen. Now, the goal will be to demonstrate that they remain among the best teams in the world. Bayern is a Regular quarterfinalist in the Champions League. Most importantly, they boast one of the strongest squads in the tournament. Vincent Kompany and his team will fancy their chances of getting to the latter rounds. And then once there, just like in the Champions League, anything can happen.
