Flyers Lose Leading Scorer and Sportsbook Odds Slip

Flyers Lose Leading Scorer and Sportsbook Odds Slip.  They already are without their top two goalies and now they have lost their leading scorer. The Flyers are still in a playoff spot but even that might change soon and the sportsbook odds are being adjusted.

Sportsbook results on the Flyers include a lot of recent losses. Philadelphia heads into Tuesday’s action having lost four of their last five including getting swept in a home and home by Atlanta.  They are going to have to try to turn things around without leading scorer Jeff Carter who is out three to four weeks with a non-displaced fracture in his left foot. He leads the team in goals with 33 and points with 60.  He has played in 286 straight games, the third-longest in team history.  That streak will end on Tuesday in Ottawa.”Jeff’s a tough kid, when he’s able to come back and play, he will,” general manager Paul Holmgren said. “Other guys have to pick up their socks a little bit.”

Carter hopes to be back for the playoffs but whether the Flyers even make the playoffs is a definite question.  “It’s tough,” Carter said. “This is what you really play all year for, down the stretch run and into the playoffs.”  Philadelphia is four points ahead of Atlanta for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Flyers were in really good shape until getting swept by the Thrashers. Now Philadelphia will have to sweat out the last ten games of the NHL sportsbook season.

Atlanta is definitely a threat to Philadelphia.  The Thrashers got 44 saves from Ondrej Pavelec on Sunday in a 3-1 win vs. the sportsbook NHL odds. “We aren’t done,” Pavelec said. “We need to make the playoffs and then you can say it was a good season. We have 10 games left, and it’s going to be hard work.” The Thrashers have won four straight games.

The Flyers still have the edge but losing Carter hurts. “We’re trying to gain momentum here as we move through the end of the season,” Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette said. “It’s tough when you suffer two losses in a home-and-home, but we’re still in charge of what we do here. We’re still [the sixth] seed in the conference; we need to win hockey games moving forward. That’s the most important thing.”
