David Beckham Out for Six Months

Sportsbook results are not going to be impacted by David Beckham for some time to come as the star midfielder will be out for about six months with a torn Achilles tendon. That will mean that Beckham won’t be playing for England and impacting World Cup odds at the sportsbook.

Sportsbook does not favor England anyway but that doesn’t mean they won’t get attention in the 2010 World Cup. They may not get as much now though with Beckham being out.  While Beckham won’t play in the World Cup, he is expected to play again. “He will have to take it very easy during the next two to three weeks or a month, and then he will continue with a recuperation program slowly.” Dr. Sakari Orava said, “The foot won’t take much strain for two to three months.”  David Beckham was injured in the last few minutes of AC Milan’s 1-0 win over Chievo Verona on Sunday.

Beckham will likely miss most of all of the upcoming MLS season as well and not impact lines at the sportsbook. “Injuries are an unfortunate part of our game and they are even more disappointing when they happen to a player who was so close to realizing his dream of representing his nation at this summer’s World Cup,” Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said, “David remains an important player for the Galaxy and we look forward to welcoming him back to the club and assisting him in his recovery.”

Beckham was not happy about the injury since he really wanted to play in the World Cup. “I am upset but [want] to thank everyone for their messages of support,” Beckham said, “I hope to make a swift and full recovery.”  An Achilles injury is one that takes some time to recover from.  It happens in tennis, soccer, basketball and football.  It should be noted that about a third of all NFL players that suffer an Achilles injury are never able to play again.  Beckham is not a young player and it could be that he never regains his superstar form.

Beckham probably would have made the England World Cup team. He would not have been a starter but he would have been very popular and he is still a great player who can effectively make great free kicks and impact results at the sportsbook.  He has 17 goals for England and made 115 appearances.  While England will miss Beckham a little bit, the MLS will miss him a lot. He is the league’s highest-paid player and its best draw.
