134 Preakness Stakes Wagering at SBG Global

134 Preakness Stakes Wagering at SBG Global. Preakness Stakes wagering is definitely not as popular as the Kentucky Derby but it is almost always exciting because one horse tries to stay alive for a Triple Crown chance in the Belmont. What is different about Preakness Stakes odds and what makes them interesting to wager on?

Preakness Stakes wagering really separates the contenders from the pretenders. In the Kentucky Derby there can be some upsets where horses win that really were not the best as 2005 proved with Giacomo and possibly again this year with Mine That Bird. Going on and winning the 134 Preakness after the Derby is not a given and then going on and winning the Belmont rarely happens. Only 11 times in history has a horse won the Derby, Preakness and Belmont or commonly referred to as the Triple Crown. And it hasn’t happened at all since 1978.

Preakness Stakes wagering is different than the Derby or the Belmont because of the distance. It is a shorter race so different dynamics are involved in Preakness Stakes odds. Also keep in mind that there is not a lot of time between the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes wagering (two weeks). That is the shortest amount of time between races and makes Preakness Stakes wagering different. Most horses are not accustomed to running a race just two weeks after running a big race. Three weeks after Preakness Stakes wagering is the Belmont and that is a grueling race that really demands stamina since horses a going a mile and a half.

Preakness Stakes odds are also different because the field is much smaller than in the Derby. Instead of 20 horses as in the Derby there are normally only about 10 in Preakness Stakes odds. In fact, the most that can ever run in Preakness Stakes wagering odds is the maximum of 14 but rarely do the fields ever top 12. Eight to 10 horses is more common in Preakness Stakes wagering.

Most of the time in Preakness Stakes wagering the Kentucky Derby winner gets all of the attention but not always. In 2005 when Giacomo won the Derby he was not the favorite in Preakness wagering and in 2009 we know that Mine That Bird is not going to be the favorite in 134 Preakness Stakes wagering.

These are just a few things to keep in mind as you look at betting on the Preakness Stakes this year.
