Nadal and Schiavone Win vs. French Open Online Gambling Odds

Rafael Nadal was the overwhelming favorite at Internet gambling companies and he came through easily in the men’s final while and Francesca Schiavone pulled off a big upset as she defeated Samantha Stosur.

Online gambling odds favored Nadal before the French Open began and he rolled to his fifth French Open title.  He dominated every one of his matches and in the final he routed Robin Soderling in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.  IT was a revenge win for Nadal as he lost to Soderling last year in the fourth round.  Nadal is now 38-1 in his career at the French Open. Nadal will now be ranked number one in the world ahead of Roger Federer who drops to number two.  Nadal is virtually unbeatable on clay.  He is 22-0 on clay this season and since 2005 he is 176-6 on clay.

The story on the women’s side was not nearly as predictable in online gambling.  Francesca Schiavone became the first Italian woman ever to win a Grand Slam title as she upset Samantha Stosur 6-4, 7-6 in the French Open final.  It was a major upset as Stosur was about a 3-1 favorite in online gambling. Stosur had beaten Justine Henin and Serena Williams so it was thought she would have little trouble with Schiavone but that was not the case.  This was a very unpredictable online gambling matchup at Internet gambling companies as only a year ago the two players met in the first round in the French Open when Stosur won.

In the French Open Final, Stosur had her chances but when she needed to come through with big points she didn’t.  Schiavone hit the big shots and won the first set but Stosur was in position to bounce back and take control of the match. She led 4-1 in the second set when she let it get away.  Schivone continued to pressure Stosur and she simply outplayed her.  Schivaone became the second oldest woman in the Open era to win her first Grand Slam since 1968. Schiavone improves from 50th in the world to 17th in the world while Stosur goes from 32nd to 7th.
