The United States is favored in offshore betting to defeat Algeria on Wednesday while England is favored against Slovenia.
Bookmaker odds on England favored the team before the World Cup began. The English were a serious contender to win the World Cup but so far they have looked nothing like a World power. England has played two draws, 2-1 against the U.S. and a 0-0 draw against Algeria. If England does not win against Slovenia they will not make the round of 16. England is not getting any offense as Wayne Rooney has been held in check in both of the first two matches.
England coach Fabio Capello benched goaltender Robert Green and went with David James in the match against Algeria. It really didn’t matter who played in goal though since Algeria was really no threat to score. England has their chances but they were not able to convert against one of the worst teams in the World Cup and the match ended in a scoreless draw.
Wednesday’s matches should be intense in offshore betting with England, the United States and Slovenia all in control of their own destiny. Slovenia can advance with win or a draw while England must win. The United States can advance with a win and they might be able to get through with a tie if Slovenia and England play to a low scoring draw. Algeria could even sneak through if they beat the United States vs. the bookmaker World Cup odds and Slovenia beats England.
Group C was not expected to have this much drama in terms of bookmaker soccer odds. England was expected to have little trouble in this group and the United States was supposed to finish second. Both clubs might still advance to the round of 16 but they need to play better than they have so far. The pressure is on both teams to win on Wednesday. The United States looks to have the easier match vs. bookmaker soccer odds as Algeria has yet to score in the World Cup. Slovenia has proven they can score and they are capable of giving an overrated England team some real trouble.
