Canadians & Flyers in Monday Stanley Cup Betting

Stanley Cup betting on Monday features Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals as the Philadelphia Flyers host the Montreal Canadians.

The Flyers were very good at home in the first two games of this series and they are favored in Stanley Cup odds on Monday.

Stanley Cup betting still favors the Flyers in this series but the Canadians have shown they can come from behind in a series and win.  They did it in the first two rounds as they trailed Washington 3-1 before coming back to win in seven games and they trailed Pittsburgh 3-2 but came back to win. The Canadians lost the first two games of this series against Philadelphia and normally that would be the kiss of death. But for the Canadians it doesn’t seem to be a problem.  Montreal has come back after trailing 2-0 in a series a total of five times, tying them with Detroit and Pittsburgh for the most in NHL history.  To do so against the Flyers they will have to win at least one game on the road in Philadelphia.

History is still with the Flyers though as they have taken 2-0 series leads a total of 16 times in their history and won the series every time.  Even though the Flyers won the first two games of this series at home they only did so because of goaltender Michael Leighton.  Montreal has dominated the Flyers in terms of shots on goal in this series.  It finally caught up to Philadelphia in Game 3 when the defense was terrible.

If you are looking for the winner of Monday’s game in Stanley Cup odds then try and predict who will score first.  The Canadians are almost unbeatable when they score first but when the other team scores first then Montreal almost always loses.  Michael Cammalleri scored first in Game 3 and the Canadians won.  Cammalleri is the leading scorer in the playoffs this season.

Some NHL history was made last Thursday as Montreal played the 700th playoff game in their history.  It was a good game for Montreal as they finally solved Leighton and got back in the series. That win on Thursday was the 400th by the Canadiens in the playoffs and that far and away leads all other NHL teams.

Monday’s Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals begins at 7 pm Eastern and can be seen on Versus and CBC.
