The Canadians are off to a solid start this season and have been worth an NHL bet or two while the Senators have really struggled.
Montreal has been doing just enough this season to get a few wins. They are just average in goals per game at 2.8 and just barely above average in goals against at 2.6. What has helped Montreal a little bit is their penalty killing which is 7th best in the league.
There is not a lot to like about Ottawa right now. They are near the bottom of the league in goals per game scoring just two per game. They are pathetic on the power play, below average on the penalty kill and near the bottom of the league in goals allowed. General manager Byan Murray admitted on Wednesday that the Senators have some serious issues. He basically said that the Senators can’t defend, can’t hit and can’t stop the puck. Murray is already talking about making a trade. The Senators got Sergei Gonchar in the off-season but everyone knows he can’t play defense and now Ottawa is faced with a serious problem on defense.
The Canadians beat the Senators in Montreal a week ago by a score of 4-3. That win broke a four game losing streak for the Canadians to the Senators. Last season it was Ottawa that did well against Montreal but perhaps the tables will turn this season. Last year it was Ottawa winning two of three at home against Montreal. Two of those three games went under the total in NHL betting.
If the Senators are to jump start their season this is a game they simply have to win. It is on Saturday night, at home and on national television. They lost last week at Montreal so they have to bounce back with a win here. The problem is that it is hard right now to make an NHL bet on a team that can’t stop anyone so the better bet at the Sbg sportsbook on Saturday night might be to take this game over the total.
