SF 49ers look to snap Seahawks 5-Game Rivalry Streak

The Seattle Seahawks have won their last five meetings with the San Francisco 49ers, and according to NFL betting online odds, they will make it six on Sunday, September 25th at CenturyLink Field. Here are those odds for people who bet on NFL:

49ers +9 (-105) 40 (-110) +335
Seahawks -9 (-115) 40 (-110) -415

The Niners seemed to be off to a good start against the Carolina Panthers in week 2. Safety Anthony Bethea intercepted Cam Newton’s first pass, which resulted in a San Francisco field goal. 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert finished 17 of 36 for 243 passing yards with two TDs, including a 75-yard scoring pass to tight end Vance McDonald. Unfortunately, Gabbert also threw two interceptions in the last five minutes of the game. The Niners are 1-1 after shutting out the Los Angeles Rams 28-0 in the season opener.

And speaking of the Rams, the LA team upset the Seahawks 3-9. Seattle racked up 10 penalties for 114 yards. QB Russell Wilson was 22 of 35 for 254 yards, and was sacked two times. Seattle running back Christine Michael (or Mark Barron, if you believe NFL.com) lost a fumble to Alec Ogletree at the LA 29 with 57 seconds remaining, squashing the ‘Hawks’ hope of a comeback. The drive included an incomplete pass from Wilson and a false start penalty on the Seahawks. All things considered, not the best showing from the 1-1 Seahawks, but at least they got to watch the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The Seahawks are just not playing offense like the NFL betting online favorites that they are supposed to be, averaging 7.5 points and 329.0 yards (239.5 passing and 89.5 rushing) per game, and have scored only one touchdown. The offensive line in particular is a classic example of money mismanagement – in fact, no other team spent less money on the O-line than the ‘Hawks.

And poor investment in the O-line means Seattle is not getting its money’s worth out of Russell Wilson. On the other hand, the Seahawks are scoring low but at least they are not easy to score against either – in fact, San Francisco head coach Chip Kelly has called  Seattle’s secondary the best in the league. Seattle is yielding 9.5 points and 248.5 total yards (184.5 passing and 64.0 rushing) per game.

It’s make or break for Seattle’s offense, and the Niners could be the perfect chance get the engine going. The ‘Hawks have won their last four encounters with the 49ers by double digits. Moreover, CenturyLink Field used to be the best home-field advantage in the league, and while it may have lost some of that reputation, San Fran have lost 10 of their last 11 regular season away games. That is not to say, though, that the 49ers don’t have an NFL betting online chance of upsetting the Seahawks. It’s not going to be a day in the park, and Gabbert’s accuracy problems are not good news for wide receivers Jeremy Kerley and Quinton Patton, but if the ‘Hawks are as susceptible to a loss as they might ever be.
