Sbgglobal opened with the San Diego Chargers as 5.5-point road favorites and with an over/under of 44.
Mixed Bag for Both
The San Diego Chargers stumbled out of the gate in their Monday Night opener at Kansas City as the Chiefs scalped them 21-14 to get the money as 4-point home dogs. The Chargers regained their intensity and focus last week in their home opener which was a 38-13 blowout win over Jacksonville as 7-point chalks.
Seattle upset San Francisco 31-6 as 3-point home dogs on opening day to kickoff the Pete Carroll era in style but then turned right around and laid a stink bomb at Denver last week in a 31-14 NFL betting loss as 3.5-point dogs. Seattle killed themselves with mistakes in the loss and Carroll could not have been happy. Seattle is yet to go under the total.
The Incomplete Favorites
San Diego was a preseason favorite to win the AFC West for the third consecutive season but is without some of the key components that have sparked them to success in the past. Among the key players missing is hold out wide receiver Vincent Jackson, who wants a trade and has plenty of interest but the Chargers price has been too high.
San Diego ranks 3rd in total offense and 8th in total defense. All Pro quarterback Philip Rivers leads a passing attack that is ranked 4th in the NFL with a 107.0 QB rating and a 9.3 yards per attempt average with 5 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions.
The biggest NFL bet problem with the Chargers is head coach Norv Turner. Sure, he has won but should have with such a strong roster. Under Turner the Chargers have remained an inconsistent team that has not been able to complete their quest for a Super Bowl. As long as Turner is the head coach there will be plenty of skepticism about San Diego and justifiably so.
San Diego has failed to get the money in their last 4 games against the Seahawks. The chalk has failed to cover the last 5 meetings. The series has posted 4 consecutive NFL bet unders in Seattle.
