New York Jets at Cleveland Browns

NFL betting on the New York Jets vs. Cleveland Browns matchup on Thursday, August 7th should be exciting as both teams look to start the NFL betting preseason with a win.

The Browns are a three point favorite in football betting with a total of 35. NFL betting on  the New York Jets will focus on the quarterback battle between Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens. Both of them should get at least a few series on Thursday night and they could impact the NFL betting line. The Jets have some good newcomers that could influence NFL betting lines this season although those players won’t get much time on Thursday. The big games are Alan Faneca who they got from the Steelers and first round draft choice Vernon Gholston out of Ohio State. Neither is likely to play much on Thursday and probably won’t impact NFL odds week 1 action.

Cleveland is the football betting darling to start the season. Everyone believes the Browns will be an NFL betting success this year. Even the television networks are on the bandwagon as the Browns are in prime time at least five times this season, including three Monday night NFL betting games. The Browns can make some noise in football betting because of a high scoring offense led by quarterback Derek Anderson. Most of the starters won’t get much playing time on Thursday and won’t impact NFL odds week 1 action very much, so expect to see a lot of backup quarterback Brady Quinn. The defense should also make a mark in NFL betting this season as they added defensive tackles Shaun Rogers and Corey Williams.

NFL betting stats show that the Jets defeated the Browns in the preseason back in 1988. Last year in the regular season the Browns defeated the Jets in NFL betting by a score of 24-18 at the Meadowlands. Football betting stats show that the Jets are 4-3 against the NFL betting pointspread in their last seven games as an away underdog. Cleveland is 5-0 against the NFL betting pointspread in their last five games as a home favorite.
