Sunday, the 16th of Nov. we were in week 11 of the NFL regular season as the then 6-3 Seattle Seahawks now (2nd NFC West) were beaten by the 6-3 Kansas City Chiefs, with both teams boasting won/loss record at 6-3, still the Chiefs won the game 24-20.
We start by looking at the scoring statistics in the game that was played at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. At 1 PM ET. The Chiefs scored 7 points in the 1st quarter, then in the 2nd they scored 7 points while Seattle scored 13, thus they went to half time at KC 14 Seattle 13. In the 3rd quarter Seattle scored 7 points and KC scored 3 points, bringing the score to Seattle 20 KC 17. Then in the 4th quarter the Seahawks went scoreless while the Chiefs scored 7 points and winning the game KC 24 and Seattle 20.
The Seahawks actually led the game in first downs with 25 on 71 offensive plays for 372 total yards with 168 passing and 204 rushing with no turnovers, and possessed the ball some 35:57 minutes of the game.
Offensive leaders in the game for Seattle were QB Wilson, who completed 20 of 32 passes for 178 yards, and 2 touchdowns, and was sacked 2 times for a loss of 10 yards. RB Lynch & QB Wilson combined for 32 carries for some 195 yards, while Receivers Kearse & Wilson had 5 receptions for combined 105 yards with no touchdowns.
The Chiefs had fewer first downs at 20 on 46 plays for 298 total yards, with 108 passing and 190 rushing yards, with 2 fumbles lost, and possessed the ball for some 24:03 minutes of the 60 minute game. Leading the offensive charge for the Chiefs were QB Smith, who was 11 of 16 passes for 18 yards with no interceptions or sacks. RB’s Charles & Thomas combined for 23 carries for 181 yards, with Charles scoring 2 touchdowns. Receivers Kelce & Charles combined for 56 yards and no touchdowns.
Thus with the Chiefs win against the reigning 2013 Champs, and now 7-3 they now appear to be a team that could be a serious contender in the AFC. In this game the Chiefs continued doing the same things they have done in this latest 5 game win streak, like rushing for 200 yards and scoring 3 touchdowns in the 4 times they were in the Seattle Red Zone inside the 20, and most important is that their defense was able to curtail Seattle in the 4th quarter. Yes, the Chief played their game.
On the other side the Seahawks tried desperately in the 4th quarter to win by going for a 1st down, on 4th down on 3 different occasions, and failed all three times. It’s incredibly rare that a team goes for 1st down on 4th down four times in a game, and in reality they did not receive an award for what they called bravery. There last 4th down attempt they had 4th and 18 for a 1st down at their own 20, with 1:16 left in the game, and QB Wilson threw a incomplete pass in desperations to receiver Richardson.
