Chargers Come Back to Defeat 49ers in Overtime

The Chargers overcame the 49ers in overtime. If you look at the scoring, it demonstrates that the Chargers had a great comeback in the 2nd half of the game to tie it up at 35-35 and force overtime.

The 49ers scored 7 points in the 1st quarter, while San Diego was scoreless. In the 2nd the 49ers scored 21 points, while the Chargers scored 7 points, thus the game went to half-time Chargers 7 and 49ers 21. The Chargers on comeback trail score 15 point in the 3rd and 14 points in the 4th quarter, while the 49ers only were able to score 7 points in the 3rd quarter, thus the game now tied at 35-35 went to overtime. In OT the Chargers kicker Novak hit a 40 yard field goal for the 3 points and give the Chargers the win 38-35.

After the 2nd half comeback by the Chargers they then led the game statistics with 28-1st downs on 80 plays for 446 yards, while the San Francisco had 21-1st downs on 66 plays for 447 total yards. The Chargers has 348 yards passing, and 98 rushing with 3 turnovers, while the 49ers had 92 passing and 355 rushing yards also with 3 turnovers. The 49ers had 9 penalties for 92 yards, and the Chargers had a fewer 8 penalties but only for 38 yards. The 49ers had ball possession for 30:35 minutes of the game, while the Chargers controlled the ball for some 34:19 minutes of the sixty (60) minute game. Both teams had 1 special teams TD in the game, which is unusual.

Win the win the Chargers were able to keep their playoff possibilities alive, and it was quite a show by Chargers QB Rivers who was hampered by rib injuries and a sore back. He brought his team back from a 21 point deficit to tie the game in regular time Saturday night, and take the game to OT in which they won on the field goal.

The 49ers on the other side could not get their passing game going, so they started with a 90 yard TD run by QB Kaepernick, which was the 2nd longest run by a QB in the NFL since back in 2001. In the game he had 7 carries for 151 yards and 1 TD and he also passed for 1 TD in the game.
