Unranked Florida Defeats No. 11 Georgia

This past Saturday, the 1st of Nov. 2014, the unranked Florida Gators now 4-3 (3rd SEC East) beat the No. 11 Georgia Bulldogs now 6-2 (2nd SEC East) 38-20 at a neutral field. Let’s recap the game played at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Bulldogs were very positive going into this game, and even scored there first 7 points in the game, which were the only points scored in the 1st quarter. The Gators then took control of the game scoring 14 points in the 2nd quarter as Georgia was scoreless, as well scoreless in the 3rd quarter, while Florida scored another 10 points. In the final 4th quarter the Gators again scored 14 points, while the Bulldogs could only amass 13 points, thus the final score Florida 38 Georgia 20.

The key to the Gators win in this game was their RB’s Jones & Taylor, who amassed some 389 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns.

Statistically the score in total yards offensively, was closer than that of the scoreboard. The Bulldogs had 21 first downs for 460 yards with 319 passing and 141 rushing with 1 turnover. On the other side the Gators had 19 first downs for 445 yards with 27 passing and 418 yards rushing.

The Gators offensive leaders in their win were QB Harris, who only had 3 completions on 6 passes for 27 yards. RB’s Taylor & Jones, who each had 25 carries, for a combined 389 yards with Taylor scoring 2 touchdowns and Jones scores 2 touchdowns as well. Receivers Pittman & Jones each had one reception for 25 yards.

Bulldogs offensive leaders were QB Mason, who completed 26 of 41 passes for 319 and 1 TD. RB’s Chubb & Douglas combined for 25 carries for 157 yards with Chubb scoring 1 TD and Douglas scored a 1 yard TD.

The big winner in this game may have been the Florida Coach Muschamp whose future has been on the line since the Gators have lost 10 of their 13 previous games.

In this game the Gators had the most yards rushing since back in 1989 when they scored 466 points playing in New Mexico with Hall of Fame RB Emmitt Smith as a running back. Another amazing point in the game came in the 2nd quarter when former walk on RB McNeely scored on a fake field goal, running for 21 yards and a TD.

This game reminded many SEC fans of the game in Jacksonville in 2011, when Georgia coach Richt’s gambling on 4th downs to save his job as he beat Florida 24-20.
