Sun Bowl Betting: Virginia Tech vs. UCLA

This New Years Eve those that Bet on College football will have the pleasure December 31st 2013 to enjoy the Hyundai Sun Bowl which takes place at 2 pm ET with the Virginia Tech HOKIES (8-4, 5-3 ACC) playing the UCLA BRUINS (9-3, 6-3 Pac-12) and the game will be played at the Sun Bowl Stadium (50,526) in El Paso, Texas.

At the Online Sportsbooks this game may not be at the top of your list, however in past years the Sun Bowl game has brought many fans a lot of entertainment.  In this game the Hokies of Virginia Tech will face the toughest challenge they have had all season since, as the Bruins whose offense is so-so, but the defense is very strong and may be the best that the Hokies have faced this 2013 season.  Tech has had problems developing deep threats but they have managed to success in the middle.  Thus the Hokies QB Thomas will have to pick on UCLA’s inexperienced young secondary.  The Hokies have three receivers (Knowles, Stanford and Byrn) who have developed excellent skill running pattern 10 to 15 yards down the field and in the middle, so expect to see a lot of mid-range routes run against the Bruins.  The Hokies have had 26 bowl appearances of which the first was in the Sun Bowl in 1947.

At the Offshore Betting sites the UCLA Bruins are favored at -7 with the total at 47 and on the money line the Bruins are -280 and of course that’s the opening lines so expect changes daily.  Amazingly the Bruins freshman Myles Jack was the Pac-12 2013 Defensive and Offensive Freshman of the season playing 11 of 12 games at linebacker and as a running back averaged 7.2 yards and scored 7 TD’s in the last 4 season games.  The experts say that not many teams can compare with the Bruins and their firepower at moving the ball up and down on the field.  That paired with their opinion that there are not too many teams that have a defense like the Hokies for stopping opponents dead in their tracks. Thus these opposites should make this a very intriguing game in this 80th Sun Bowl.  The Bruins offense has averaged some 36.5 points each game and they are led by QB Hundley whom this season has thrown 22 touchdown passes while amassing 2,845 yards which gave him a 68 percent completion rate. This is going to be a great game and we wish the best to the Bruins and Hokies.
