Chick-fil-A Bowl Betting – Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech

Chick-fil-A Bowl betting matches up Tennessee and Virginia Tech on New Year’s Eve in a game that will be televised on ESPN. Virginia Tech is ranked 12th in the country, yet they are just a 4.5 point favorite in NCAA football betting against Tennessee.

Chick-fil-A Bowl betting has the potential to be very interesting with Lane Kiffin’s Tennessee team faces Frank Beamer’s Hokies. The Tennessee offense can put points on the board with quarterback Jonathan Crompton and running back Montario Hardesty.  The Volunteeers have averaged 33 points and 410 yards per game in their last five games. Hardesty finished the season with 586 yards and six TDs in the final five games. It is not all offense for Tennessee either as they have the best defensive back in the country in safety Eric Berry who won the Jim Thorpe Award winner as the country’s best defensive back.

Virginia Tech is playing in a bowl game for the 17th straight year.  They finished behind Georgia Tech in the ACC in what was somewhat of a disappointing season.  That didn’t matter to the Chick-fil-A Bowl though.
“This really is a dream matchup,” said Chick-fil-A Bowl president Gary Stokan. “To have the opportunity to host two nationally significant and traditional teams in Virginia Tech and Tennessee says a lot about the quality of this game. We feel like we’ve got one of the most compelling matchups outside the BCS.”

Chick-fil-A Bowl betting indicates that Virginia Tech is led by freshman Ryan Williams who had 1,538 yards this season. He set a freshman conference record with 20 overall touchdowns. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor threw for 2,102 yards and 13 touchdowns.

This is the fourth appearance in Chick-fil-A Bowl betting for Virginia Tech and the fifth for Tennessee.  Tennessee has beaten Virginia Tech in five of the seven all-time meetings but the teams have not played since 1994.

Chick-fil-A Bowl betting has the Volunteers at 5-2 vs. the NCAA football betting odds in their last 7 games overall. The Hokies are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Hokies are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Bowl games as an NCAA football betting favorite.
Chick-fil-A Bowl betting indicates that the last five Tennessee bowl games have gone under the total. Four of their last five Tennessee games overall have gone over.  Chick-fil-A Bowl betting has five of the last six Virginia Tech games going under in NCAA football betting.
