It is the first game of a three-game road trip for the Celtics. Boston has won six of the last ten against Houston overall but they are just 5-5 in basketball betting.
Basketball bet scheduling has not seen these two teams meet in more than a year. The last time they played was in January of 2009 and the Rockets pulled out an 89-85 road win. The Celtics won last year in Houston by a score of 103-99. In fact, Boston has won four of the last five at Houston. In this series, seven of the last ten have gone under in basketball betting.
Last season it was Ray Allen leading the Celtics in scoring against Houston with 21.5 points per game. The Celtics have been a better team on the road this season than at home so that goes right along with how they have played against the Rockets. Boston is 17-16-1 in road games for those making a basketball bet. That doesn’t sound very good but it is far better than their home record vs. the point spread. Boston is 2nd in the league on defense but they have struggled on offense. The Celtics are just 19th in the league in points per game and that is just not enough to win on a nightly basis for those making a basketball bet on Boston.
Houston is still technically alive in the playoff race but realistically they are playing for next year. The Rockets are really too far back of 8th place Portland to really make a run, especially considering Houston’s schedule down the stretch. The Rockets have shown some good signs lately though and perhaps they can finish the season above .500 and head into next season with momentum. The trade for Kevin Martin is looking better and better and Houston could be a playoff team next season when they get Yao Ming back. The Rockets have two good guards now in Martin and Aaron Brooks and they have some other solid players like Luis Scola and Trevor Ariza. Houston does need to improve their defense as they are just 20th in the league.
This should be a good game to make a basketball bet on. The Celtics have shown they can win on the road while the Rockets have the ability to win at home.
