The Sbg sportsbook opened with the Knicks as a +4500 choice to win the NBA championship and at +2000 for New York to win the Eastern Conference.
Pro basketball was king in New York when the Dolans took over the franchise and in no time they decimated what was the marquee franchise of the league and made it into a laughingstock, except with NBA commissioner David Stern who has always wanted a strong New York presence and title contending team at Madison Square Garden. The fact that the Dolans were talking to former general manager Isaiah Thomas about coming back to the franchise as a consultant after he ran the team into the ground and brought scandalous headlines in local tabloids shows that they have learned nothing and are incapable of putting a winning team on the hardwood.
Clock Ticking for Coach
Last year New York finished with a 29-53 season as they ranked 15th for offense and 27th for defense. Mike D’Antoni has never seemed like a good fit for New York after arriving from the Phoenix Suns, where he had great regular season success with a run and gun offense that does not translate well in the playoffs or in the Eastern Conference.
A Big Import
On the positive front center Amare Stoudemire arrived from Phoenix for $100 million in a much needed acquisition to give the Knicks some NBA bet credibility and their long suffering fans some hope that they are serious about improving. Stoudemire should fit right in with D’Antoni as he is a fine offensive talent that doesn’t really care for the defensive end of the court.
Danilo Gallinari is the small forward that brings an excellent shooting touch to the floor. Last year he averaged 15.1 points per game and may show increased production now that defenses will have to pay closer attention to Stoudemire.
While the Knicks should be better with the addition of Stoudemire they are still not a legitimate Eastern Conference contender. Beyond that, they are often a poor NBA wagering online value as they have a large fan base that will bet on them regardless of their value on the board.
