The NBA All Star 2008 Slam Dunk contest will have last year’s defending champion Gerald Green from the Minnesota Timberwolves, the 2006 NBA Slam Dunk champ Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic, Rudy Gay of the Memphis Grizzlies and Jamario Moon from the Toronto Raptors.
NBA All Star 2008 Slam Dunk action will be judged a bit differently this year. Fans will actually have a say in who wins the NBA All Star 2008 Slam Dunk contest. The judges will determine which two players advance to the final round of the NBA All Star 2008 Slam Dunk contest but fans will get a say in that final round. During the final round of the NBA All Star 2008 Slam Dunk contest each judge’s vote will count the same as a fan vote.

In last year’s NBA slam dunk contest it was Gerald Green defeating defending champion Nate Robinson of the New York Knicks. Green had the three highest scores of the night, including a perfect 50 on his final dunk. The NBA All Star 2008 Slam Dunk contest will provide an opportunity for Green to defend his title. The last player to successfully defend his NBA Slam Dunk crown was Jason Richardson who was with Golden State at the time. The only other player to defend his NBA slam dunk title was Michael Jordan who won in 1987 and in 1988.
The NBA All Star 2008 Slam Dunk has the top two players advancing to the finals where the dunker with the lowest total score from the first round will go first. Dunks then alternate until each player has completed two. After those dunks the voting will be open to the public and the judges will put in their scores. The judge’s votes will be combined with the fans votes to determine the NBA All Star 2008 Slam Dunk champ.
