Posada has a fracture on the bottom of his right foot that is expected to keep him out for a few weeks. The Yankees remain the favorite in baseball betting odds to defend their World Series title.
Baseball odds do favor the Yankees but it is Tampa Bay who is in first place in the American League East. The Yankees are not that far behind but New York does have some injury concerns. Losing Posada definitely does not help them vs. the baseball betting odds. "It just wasn't feeling right," said Posada, "The pain moved from the top of the foot to the bottom and I was hoping it was just a bone bruise. But I woke up this morning and I was still limping a little bit so we decided to get an MRI."
The Yankees will be relying heavily upon Francisco Cervelli as their catcher until Posada returns. They will have to find someone to back him up. "We're still discussing what we're going to do," manager Joe Girardi said. The Yankees are winning versus the baseball odds even though they have a number of players on the DL. Posada will join center fielder Curtis Granderson, DH Nick Johnson, pitcher Chan Ho Park and reliever Alfredo Aceves. Outfielder Nick Swisher has also missed time recently due to a sore left bicep. "We can't feel sorry for ourselves. Teams playing us don't feel sorry for us," shortstop Derek Jeter said, "Other guys have to pick it up."
Baseball betting odds stats indicate that Posada was hitting .326 with six homers and 14 RBIs. "He's our catcher, a DH, switch-hitter. It's a big hurdle. We're going to have to overcome it," pitcher A.J. Burnett said. The Yankees will definitely miss his bat in the middle of the lineup. "It's tough, no matter what," Posada said. "You want to be out there. You see the team losing, you see the team struggling and you want to help. I really can't tell you how frustrating it is." The good news for New York is that Cervelli has played well. He was hitting .373 with no homers and 17 RBIs. He does not have the power of Posada though so the Yankees will need more production out of players like Alex Rodriguez and Mark Texeira as they look to win vs. the baseball odds.
