Japan is the Defending World Baseball Classic Betting Champ

World Baseball Classic betting odds for the 2009 tournament list Japan as the third choice behind the United States and the Dominican Republic.

Those World Baseball Classic odds could be a mistake though since Japan is the defending champion and the most prepared of the teams competing this year. Let’s take a look at the odds for all 16 teams.

World Baseball Classic betting will see a number of Major League Baseball players on the teams. Japan has two stars of their own in Boston Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka and Seattle Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki. The Japan team also has a big advantage as they started their training camp a full week ahead of other teams. Japan should sail through Group A in World Baseball Classic betting as South Korea, China and Chinese Taipei are no threats. The top two teams from each of the four groups advance in World Baseball Classic odds. Japan will be favored in all of their group games in World Baseball Classic betting.

After the group round the top two teams advance to the second round which is also double elimination. The final in World Baseball Classic betting will be played on March 23rd at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. It is expected that the United States team will be part of that final since they are the favorite in World Baseball Classic betting. The second choice is the Dominican Republic followed by Japan. The team that lost to Japan in last year’s final, Cuba, is undervalued again this year and could be an interesting darkhorse in World Baseball Classic betting.

The United States is the favorite in World Baseball Classic betting to win the entire tournament while the Dominican Republic is next. What has hurt the Dominican Republic in recent days is the news that Albert Pujols will not play and that Fausto Carmona is not expected to participate. Japan is third in World Baseball Classic betting odds at 8-1. Venezuela and Cuba are next at 10-1 in World Baseball Classic betting odds. They are followed by Korea and Puerto Rico who are 15-1 in World Baseball Classic odds. Mexico is 20-1 in World Baseball Classic betting odds. Panama is 25-1, Chinese Taipei is 40-1, Canada is 50-1, Italy is 80-1, Australia and the Netherlands are 150-1 while China and South Africa are 200-1 in World Baseball Classic odds.
