It is the second game of a three-game series between the two teams. This should be a competitive game and the MLB betting line is close on this Saturday matchup.
Baseball betting trends do favor the Cubs just a little bit in this series. Before yesterday’s game, the Cubs had won 12 of the last 20 against the Reds. Earlier this season though in Cincinnati, the Reds took two of three from the Cubs. Two of those games were one-run contests as the Cubs won 4-3 while the Reds won 5-4. The other game was a 3-1 win for Cincinnati. When the Cubs and Reds meet the games are normally very tight and very competitive.
If the Cubs are to have success in this series vs. the MLB betting odds they will need their offense to do the job. One player who has excelled recently is shortstop Ryan Theriot. "The main thing for me -- I can't speak for anybody else -- is just staying consistent with my approach," Theriot said. "[Hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo] has done a great job." Another player who has been very important to the Cubs is outfielder Marlon Byrd. He has batted first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth in the lineup. Byrd seems to hit no matter where he is in the Chicago lineup. "You have to be the same," Byrd said. "I want to be in the lineup anywhere. That's what I tell Lou: 'Anywhere you want to put me, I'm ready.'" Chicago manager Lou Piniella has tinkered with the Chicago lineup all season and continues to do so. "I think our lineup is a little bit of a wait-and-see," Piniella said. "I don't think you're going to see a constant. They'll be in the same vicinities of the lineup, but I don't know who's going to stay fourth or fifth."
The Cubs are capable of scoring in this baseball betting series vs. the Reds. Cincinnati does not have a great pitching staff so Chicago could find some success on offense. Players like Theriot and Byrd have been hitting but Chicago also needs their star players, Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano to do their part.
