Cardinals Favored on Friday in Baseball Lines vs. Mets

Baseball lines favor St. Louis on Friday as they host the New York Mets in the first game of a three-game series.

The Cardinals have started the season strongly while the Mets have struggled.  St. Louis is one of the favorites in the National League and they are almost always favored at home in baseball odds.

Baseball lines in this game could be pretty high if Chris Carpenter gets the start for St. Louis.  The Cardinals were expected to send Carpenter in this game or on Saturday.  He has really not pitched well so far this season.  He has allowed five home runs in his two starts.  He allowed just seven all of last season.  Manager Tony La Russa said he was not concerned though. "He just wasn't as sharp," La Russa said, "Even against Cincinnati, he was good, but he's capable of being sharper. But as long as he's healthy and competing, everything will fall into place."  Carpenter probably should have won the Cy Young award last year so it may be a little early for the Cardinals to panic.

The Mets are expected to go with Oliver Perez on Friday in this baseball lines matchup.  He has not started off well and that is a major concern for New York.  Perez did not pitch well at Busch Stadium last year, allowing four runs in 4 2/3 innings.

New York and St. Louis have split their last 20 games overall vs. the baseball lines.  The teams met for just one series in St. Louis last season and the Cardinals won all three games vs. the baseball odds.  St. Louis won 12-8, 5-2 and 6-4.  They split their four games in St. Louis two years ago.

The Mets are struggling early in the season in pretty much every area.  Their lineup is still missing Carlos Beltran and his absence is a major problem.  Jose Reyes is back but he doesn’t look anywhere near ready to play.  He missed Spring Training and it shows.  Reyes will eventually get things turned around but right now he is still working his way into shape.  The Mets have David Wright who can drive in runs but not much else.  The pitching is not very good either.  Johan Santana is the one starter who gets respect in baseball lines.  None of the other starters throw fear into opposing teams.
