Bay Area Rivalry in Baseball Gambling on Thursday

November 30th, 2010 Betting on MLB Baseball

Baseball gambling on Thursday includes a Bay area rivalry game as the Oakland Athletics battle the San Francisco Giants in a game that can be seen on the MLB Network.

The A’s are considered a longshot in the American League while the Giants are a definite MLB gambling contender in the National League.

Baseball gambling could be more successful on the A’s this season but they probably still can’t contend in the American League West.  They could be improved though, especially if Justin Duchscherer pitches well.  He has not pitched in a Major League games since April of 2008 and the A’s have missed him.  He has looked good so far this Spring as he pitched four scoreless innings against the Mariners on Monday. "That was my goal," Duchscherer said, "to get up and down four times. I’m very pleased with that. Command-wise, I thought it was pretty good for my first outing. Not quite where I expect to be when April starts … but all in all, pretty good for the first time out there in a while."  Keep in mind that Duchscherer is a two-time All-Star and a pitcher that gets some respect in MLB gambling odds.

Duchscherer is a bit behind the other pitchers for the A’s but he has more talent and ability than any of them.  The A’s rotation right now looks weak.  They are looking at Ben Sheets, Dallas Braden, Brett Anderson and another starter for the fifth spot. The rotation would look a lot better with Duchscherer leading it. "If he progresses each start, he should be fine," said manager Bob Geren. "He threw real well. Right now, everything looks positive.”

The Giants have a much better starting rotation and it could get even better.  Todd Wellemeyer has been excellent this Spring and looks to get the number five spot in the rotation. He is the only San Francisco pitcher so far this Spring to go five innings. He did that on Saturday and gave up just four hits and two walks in a 6-0 win for the Giants in baseball gambling. Wellemeyer has a 1.20 ERA in five appearances. "I like the way he throws quality strikes early in the count," manager Bruce Bochy said.  The addition of Wellemeyer to the rotation would make the Giants very dangerous considering they already have Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain.
