Baseball Odds – Big Hitter for Texas Goes on the DL

The powerful offense of the Texas Rangers could struggle vs. the baseball odds as they received a blow on Monday as outfielder Nelson Cruz was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

The Rangers have a lot of talent and could still win vs. the baseball lines but Cruz will be missed.

Baseball odds at sbgglobal list the Rangers at 4-1 to win the World Series. There is only one team with shorter odds and that is the New York Yankees at 2-1.  The Rangers are running away with the American League West so they can survive without Cruz. The question for gamblers though is whether they can win as much the next two weeks without Cruz in the lineup.

Injury:  Cruz got hurt on Saturday when he was running the bases against Boston. He suffered a hamstring injury and although an MRI showed no tear, the Rangers had to put him on the DL. It is the third time this season that Cruz has been on the DL and his hamstring has been the problem every time.

Impact:  If you don’t think that Cruz matters to baseball odds with the Rangers you might want to take a glance at the numbers. Cruz is hitting.320 with 16 homers and 64 RBI in 77 games for the Rangers.  The Rangers have an excellent lineup with Josh Hamilton leading the way but without Cruz they are simply not as good.

Betting:  What you may want to do with the Rangers is take their games under the total for a couple of weeks while Cruz is out.  Texas has a very underrated pitching staff led by Cliff Lee.  You might think with the third best offense in the league that the Rangers would be an “over” team. Think again.  The Rangers are just 50-50 in over-unders vs. the baseball lines at home while they have gone under almost 60% of the time in road games.  The Rangers are on the road this week with games at Tampa and Baltimore and the under could be the way to go. Texas doesn’t get much credit for pitching but their staff is 8th in the league in ERA.  The under is definitely worth a look with Ranger games with Cruz on the disabled list.
