First Place Padres Favored in Friday Baseball Gambling

The San Diego Padres are the first place team in the National League West and they are favored on Friday in baseball gambling as they host the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Padres have been excellent at home vs. the MLB gambling odds and they will be favored in this weekend series against Arizona.

The Diamondbacks are expected to go with Dan Haren on Friday. He is 7-7 with a 4.36 ERA.  He is 0-1 in his last three starts with a 2.91 ERA. He has had a lot of success in his career against the Padres, going 5-1 with a 2.89 ERA. Haren has pitched well lately but has nothing to show for it.  He has gone into the seventh inning in his last four starts.

San Diego is expected to start Jon Garland on Friday. He is 8-6 on the season with a 3.56 ERA.  He is just 1-1 in his last three starts with a 5.09 ERA.  In his career against the Diamondbacks he is 2-2 with a 5.63 ERA.

The only real positive for the Diamondbacks in this game is Haren. Arizona has been terrible on the road this season.  They are 13-30 on the road.  The Diamondbacks have a horrible pitching staff overall. They are last in the league in ERA giving up over 5 runs per game. Their offense is not bad but it is not nearly good enough to make up for a rotten pitching staff.

San Diego is 27-19 at home this season. The Padres win with pitching as they have the top team ERA in the league.  San Diego’s offense does just enough to get by led by first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.  The Padres have won four of the six meetings against Arizona this season. At Petco Park the Padres swept the Diamondbacks back in April.  The totals in the six games this season have been pretty low and the over/under in those games are 2-2 with two ties.

Predicting a total with Arizona usually means a high number since the Diamondbacks have no pitching and decent hitting.  The Padres are the opposite with great pitching and below average hitting. Which way will the total go in this series?  In this game it may lean to the under because Haren is going for Arizona.
