It is unusual to see the starter of the All-Star game as an underdog in baseball betting but that will be the case on Sunday as David Price and the Rays are underdogs at New York.
Baseball futures favor New York in this game that can be seen on TBS. The Yankees are favored since they are at home and because they have Andy Pettitte on the mound. He was in the All-Star game as well but it was Price who got the start. Price is 12-4 on the season with a 2.42 ERA. He has the most wins in the American League with 12. He is 2-1 with a 2.28 ERA in his last three starts. He has been very good in his career against the Yankees, going 2-0 with a 2.56 ERA.
Andy Pettitte has numbers almost as good as Price’s. He is 11-2 on the season with a 2.70 ERA. He is 2-0 in his last three starts with a 3.79 ERA. In the last ten seasons he is 15-5 against the Rays with a 4.22 ERA.
The Rays and Yankees have played some excellent games recently and the road team has done very well. The Rays won two games back in May at New York while the Yankees won two of three in Tampa in April. What has also happened when these two teams meet is a lot of runs have been scored. With Price and Pettitte on the mound that may not happen but both of these teams have powerful offenses.
Tampa Bay has actually been better on the road than they have been at home in baseball betting. The Rays have the best road record in the league and they are very capable of winning at New York. Tampa has an excellent pitching staff and they are also in the top five in the league in runs scored.
The Yankees have similar numbers to Tampa Bay which is why these two teams are first and second in the league in wins. The Yankees are tough to beat at home and Pettitte has been a great pitcher at home throughout the years.
