American Lion 2010 Kentucky Betting

2010 Kentucky betting on American Lion lists the Illinois Derby winner at 16-1 to win the Kentucky Derby.

The speed horse will try and wire the field and win at nice Kentucky Derby odds on Saturday, May 1st at Churchill Downs.  Here is some information to consider as you look to wager on American Lion in the Kentucky Derby.

2010 Kentucky betting probably won’t be that popular on American Lion but the odds will be attractive.  After winning the Illinois Derby by 2 3/4 lengths, the horse is headed to the derby. American Lion won the Hollywood Prevue in December but he had lost his two starts this year before winning the Illinois Derby.  Trainer Eoin Harty took the blinkers off for the Illinois Derby and it seemed to help. Going to the dirt from the synthetic also helped.  American Lion went to the early lead in the Illinois Derby with jockey David Flores and he will try and repeat that strategy in Kentucky Derby odds.  “He bobbled a little bit at the start," said Flores, “but he got his feet right back under him and went right to the lead. He started looking around but I was pretty confident. I thought they would push him a little bit early but he was just looking around a little bit and he responded when they came to him. That was a good feeling knowing that when they came to him he still had something left in the tank."

American Lion is a son of Tiznow and is out of the Storm Cat mare Storm Tide.  He is 3-1-1 in six starts. "There is only one Derby and we plan on being there," Harty said. "I think we needed to get a race over the dirt and fortunately he responded well to it. I have had three Kentucky Derby horses, all Tiznow runners, and this is another one that looks to be headed in the right direction." American Lion is training well as he had a bullet work at Keeneland, going a half-mile in :46 4/5 over Polytrack.

American Lion will be one of the many horses going off at double-digit odds in 2010 Kentucky betting.  He should at least give fans a thrill as he almost always goes to the lead. Whether he can hang on in the Kentucky Derby will be the question to answer for those that bet him.
