Trainer Derek Ryan said that Musket Man is doing well and will make the trip to Churchill Downs for the race on November 6th. Musket Man will likely go off at double-digit Breeders Cup odds, well back of the favored Zenyatta.
Musket Man is coming off a runner-up finish in the Monmouth Cup on October 9th. He did not get a great trip but still finished second behind Etched. Musket Man was the favorite in that race but didn’t get much racing room. His jockey Eibar Coa believes that Musket Man can come up with a good effort in the Classic.
Musket Man Numbers – In 14 career starts, Musket Man has 6 wins, three seconds and five third place finishes. He has never been out of the money and if he shows in the Breeders Cup he would pay out well. He has some experience in big races as he finished third in the Kentucky Derby and in the Preakness Stakes. He won the Tampa Bay Derby and the Illinois Derby. Musket Man will likely be ignored in the Breeders Cup odds since everyone will be focused on Zenyatta and Lookin at Lucky but Musket Man has shown in past races that he is very capable of sneaking in there and grabbing a piece of the pie.
