Rachel Alexandra Out: Belmont Stakes Odds Updated

November 30th, 2010 Belmont Stakes Betting

Belmont Stakes odds at the sportsbook have been adjusted with Preakness Stakes winner Rachel Alexandra out of the picture.

Belmont Stakes betting will have Kentucky Derby winner, Mine That Bird as the solid favorite on Saturday in the 141st running of the Belmont Stakes with a field of ten horses expected.

Belmont Stakes odds at the sports book may have had Mine That Bird favored anyway considering how he was gaining ground on the filly in the Preakness.  Now there is no question that Mine That Bird will be the solid favorite in Belmont Stakes odds.

Rachel Alexandra is a perfect five for five this year, winning the Preakness, Kentucky Oaks, Fair Grounds Oaks, Fantasy and Martha Washington Stakes.  Where she goes next is still up in the air but she definitely won’t be on the Belmont Stakes odds board. "I think everybody gets to take a step back and take a deep breath," trainer Steve Asmussen said, "We’ll take a little bit of the pressure off her and just enjoy her. We were very pleased with how she went. We’ll see what sort of energy she comes out of it with. As always, we’ll be talking with Jess (Owner Jess Jackson) and communicating where we feel she is."

Since Rachel Alexandra will not be part of Belmont Stakes odds at the sportsbook there will be nine other horses to challenge Mine That Bird, many of which probably don’t have much of a chance.  There will be no Triple Crown again this year but jockey Calvin Borel can become the first jockey to win all three races aboard two difference horses.

Mine That Bird will be the favorite in Belmont Stakes betting at the sports book followed by Charitable Man who won the Peter Pan Stakes.  Two horses that were in the Derby but skipped the Preakness are back for Belmont Stakes betting, (Chocolate Candy and Dunkirk.)  They should be the next two horses on the Belmont Stakes odds board behind Mine That Bird and Charitable Man.  The rest of the horses in the field are considered longshots with Belmont Stakes odds of at least 10-1 or more and many with odds of 20-1 or more.

Belmont Stakes betting may not have the filly Rachel Alexandra in the race but it should still be interesting with Borel going for the jockey Triple Crown.
